Positioning

Build your skills. Make your positioning clear.

Three questions to clarify your expertise and start building evidence.

An Ethos learning session

Start with a specific need

Positioning starts with a situation you understand. Who are you speaking to, and which problem keeps coming up? Before looking for a memorable phrase, describe that need in the person's own words. A real conversation often tells you more than a long list of skills.

Describe your contribution

Connect your skills to that need. Write a simple sentence: I help this audience reach this outcome through this approach. Treat it as a hypothesis to test through feedback and your ability to deliver, rather than a fixed promise.

Show evidence

Choose work that illustrates your contribution: a case study, prototype, analysis or completed project. Explain the context, your role and the outcome. A clearly labelled personal project can demonstrate your approach without claiming commercial results it did not achieve.
